About Ravensburger

It remains privately owned by members of the founding Maier family and is best known in the UK for jigsaw puzzles, where it leads the European market, along with family board games. Its North American arm, based in Seattle, has published hobby titles such as Disney Villainous and Horrified.

Ravensburger moved into trading card games with Disney Lorcana, announced at the end of August 2022 under licence from Disney. Designed by Ryan Miller and Steve Warner, the game casts players as Illumineers who summon 'glimmers' of Disney characters using ink. The First Chapter reached game shops on 18 August 2023 and mass retail on 1 September 2023, launching in English, French and German at the same time.

Since then Ravensburger has kept up a steady release schedule of roughly three to four main sets a year, from Rise of the Floodborn in late 2023 to Fabled in 2025 and on into 2026. It has layered collector products on top, including the Enchanted rarity revealed shortly before launch, the Epic and Iconic rarities added with Fabled, and serialised cards. Organised play grew from store leagues into the Disney Lorcana Challenge circuit, continental Championships and the first World Championship at Walt Disney World in June 2025.

For collectors, Ravensburger's choices on print runs, reprints and premium rarities shape the Lorcana market. Early sets that were hard to find at launch, chase rarities such as Enchanted, and limited tournament prizes like the serialised gold Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor are the areas where values have been most volatile. Announcements about reprints, new rarities or prize structures are therefore worth watching closely.
