How to tell if your Pokémon cards are worth money

Short answer: check the rarity, the card number, the Pokémon and the condition — then look up recent sold prices for that exact version.

  1. Rarity symbol. Circle and diamond cards are usually worth pennies. Stars, and especially gold or multiple stars, are worth checking.
  2. Card number. A number higher than the set total (like 215/191) is a secret rare.
  3. Full art or special art. Cards where the art fills the whole card are the modern chase cards.
  4. Popular Pokémon. Charizard, Pikachu, Umbreon, Mew and Gengar versions are often worth more than other cards of the same rarity.
  5. Vintage. 1999–2003 holos, and anything with a 1st Edition stamp, deserve a closer look.
  6. Condition. Bends, creases and whitened edges cut value sharply.

Then check the price
