What makes Star Wars: Unlimited Event Promos collectable
The ladder runs from weekly store events, through Planetary Qualifiers held in shops worldwide and larger Sector Qualifiers and Regional Championships, up to the annual Galactic Championship, held in Las Vegas in 2025 and 2026. Each tier hands out its own alternate-art promos, and the cards get scarcer the further a player goes in an event.
At a Planetary Qualifier, every entrant receives an event promo, while foil Top 8, Top 4, Finalist and Champion promos go only to the players who reach those placements. Sector Qualifiers and Regionals offer alternate-art prize-wall cards, mats and sleeves, plus Showcase leaders for the top-ranked player with each leader. The Galactic Championship has its own prize wall, participation promos for each day of play, a deluxe promo pack for the top 64, and individual promo variants for the top eight, top four, finalist and champion.
Convention exclusives are a separate strand. In 2024 Fantasy Flight sold a six-card pack of Dark Side characters, including Darth Vader - Commanding the First Legion, with a unique visual treatment, at San Diego Comic-Con, Gen Con, PAX West, Spiel Essen and PAX Unplugged. Further annual packs followed, and the 2026 edition, a set of grayscale Underworld and bounty-hunter cards by Vincent Dutrait, is being sold at 25 events, including UK Games Expo.
For collectors the key distinction is between widely distributed cards, such as weekly play and attendance promos, and placement-only cards printed for a handful of players per event. Champion and Finalist promos from Planetary Qualifiers and the Galactic Championship are the scarcest, while convention packs sit in between: limited, but available to anyone who attended and bought one. Sealed convention packs and complete sets often attract a premium over loose singles.
What drives the value
- Placement-only scarcity: Champion and Finalist promos exist in tiny numbers compared with attendance cards.
- Event prestige: Galactic Championship promos carry more appeal than store-level prizes.
- Character: Darth Vader, Boba Fett, the Mandalorian and other headline characters lead demand.
- Unique treatments: convention packs use art styles not found elsewhere, such as the 2026 grayscale design.
- Sealed versus loose: unopened convention or event packs and complete sets can carry a premium.
- Foil and condition: foil placement promos in gem-mint condition, especially graded, are the hardest to find.
How to spot the real thing
- Check the set code and number: convention exclusives use their own codes such as C24 001/006.
- Look for the alternate artwork or frame that differs from the booster version of the same card.
- Placement promos such as Champion or Finalist cards are foil; confirm the placement wording or marking where present.
- Compare with official reveal articles on starwarsunlimited.com to confirm the artwork matches.
- For sealed convention packs, check the wrapping is intact and ask for proof of origin for expensive lots.

What was in the Star Wars Unlimited 2024 Convention Exclusive?
Six Dark Side cards: Count Dooku, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Kylo Ren, Asajj Ventress and Darth Maul, each with an exclusive visual treatment. It was sold for $100 at five 2024 conventions, one per person per event.
Can I buy Star Wars Unlimited convention exclusives in the UK?
The 2026 convention pack was listed for sale at UK Games Expo in May 2026, among 25 events worldwide. Otherwise, UK collectors usually buy them on the secondary market.
What do you win at the Star Wars Unlimited Galactic Championship?
There are participation promos for each day, a deluxe promo pack for the top 64, individual promo variants for the top 8, top 4, finalist and champion, and Showcase leaders for the top player with each leader.
Are Star Wars Unlimited promo cards tournament legal?
Promos are alternate versions of existing cards, so they are legal wherever the original card is. Some convention cards preview future sets and cannot be used in organised play until that set releases.
Which Star Wars Unlimited promos are the rarest?
Placement-only cards such as Planetary Qualifier Champion promos and Galactic Championship Top 8, Finalist and Champion variants are printed for very few players. Convention exclusives are more common but still limited to attendees.
