Energy and attack speed: why cost matters
You can normally attach one Energy card per turn from your hand. So a 3-Energy attack takes three turns to power up — unless your deck has ways to speed that up.
Damage by Energy cost in Standard
| Cost | Attacks | Average damage | Top damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 8 | 34 | 120 |
| 1 Energy | 789 | 28 | 250 |
| 2 Energy | 725 | 57 | 280 |
| 3 Energy | 577 | 112 | 330 |
| 4 Energy | 92 | 157 | 300 |
| 5 Energy | 9 | 227 | 270 |
Colorless Energy
A C in a cost can be paid with any Energy, which makes those attacks easy to fit into different decks.
Plan your turns
Count how many turns it takes your main attacker to be ready, and have something useful to do before then. See the damage-per-Energy chart.
